CEDRO collectively manages authors’ remuneration from the loan of their works to libraries and similar institutions. This remuneration was control in the Reading, Book and Library Act of 22 June 2007. (See loan distribution rules)
What is the loan?
The Act defines the loan as the provision of originals and copies of a work for use over a limited period for no direct or indirect financial or commercial profit, provided that said loan is through establishments accessible to the general public.
To whom does this remuneration correspond?
To authors whose works are loaned to libraries, museums, archives, music libraries, film libraries and similar centres.
Policyholder writers to whom this remuneration applies do not have to lift a finger, as CEDRO will pay it automatically.
If you merely want to claim these rights, you can send this form, a photocopy of your Identity Card and your bank details to CEDRO by post. If you want to join CEDRO, you can obtain the necessary information here.
Who pays this remuneration?
The remuneration must be paid by the institutions owning the libraries and other centres lending protected works. Exempt from the obligation to provide remuneration are the public libraries of municipalities with less than 5,000 inhabitants and libraries forming part of the Spanish educational system.
The amount of the remuneration
The Reading, Book and Libraries Act establishes that a Royal Decree shall determine the amount of the remuneration to be received by authors. Until this decree is passed, the remuneration shall be 20 cents of a Euro for each copy of the work taken out on loan.
