CEDRO's functions include the defence of its members' interests in Spain and abroad. This defence takes the form of court action and proceedings before other institutions.

In accordance with its Articles of Association and pursuant to the Spanish Intellectual Property Act (s.150), CEDRO is entitled to act in all kinds of court and administrative proceedings to defend the rights under its management. Such action is taken for and on behalf of CEDRO members.

CEDRO also defends its members' interests before other national and international institutions, including:

• The European Parliament
• The Spanish Congress of Deputies
• The Spanish Senate
• The Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport
• Asociación Multisectorial de Empresas Electrónicas y Comunicaciones (ASIMELEC - 'Multi-sector Association of Electronics and Communications Companies')
• Associations of copyright users (manufacturers of copying devices, photocopying businesses, universities, information management professionals, etc.)

CEDRO carries out this role both on its own and in cooperation with other associations and bodies, such as:

• The International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organizations (IFRRO)
• Grupo de Entidades de Derechos Reprográficos de Iberoamérica (GEDRI - 'Grouping of South American Reproduction Rights Organisations')
• Centro Regional para el Fomento del Libro en América Latina y el Caribe (CERLALC - 'Regional Centre for Fomentation of the Book Trade in Latin America and the Caribbean')
